The tooth is composed of different layers such as enamel, dentin and the pulp. The pulp is the inner layer contains nerves and blood vessels that nourish the tooth.
When the infection reached to the pulp due to any of the reason such as deep decay, cracks and chips or repeated dental procedures, than the root canal treatment is carried out to save the tooth. Sometime pusses from the infection make its way into blood stream and cause serious infections in other parts of the neck, face or head.
Root canal Procedure:
There is nothing to worry about the treatment, you can discuss in details with our expert before getting treated. Once you get satisfied after the conversation, treatment will be started. Initially, you have to undergo an x-ray. Our endodontist uses anesthesia for numbing the area around that particular tooth and remove discomfort during treatment. Rubber sheet is placed around the affected tooth to ensure that the area is dry. An opening is made through the crown to the root chamber, as the root is infected or inflamed. Bacteria, dead cell and decay are removed from the tooth. Cleaning is done till the end of the root completely. Permanent filling is done with the bio compatible material called as gutta percha to strengthen the tooth. This help to keep root free from bacteria and infection. Then the crown is placed over the top of the tooth which resembles the natural tooth.
Root canal therapy consist two to three visit to the dentist, depending on the severity of the condition. Most of the time due to large a cavity or decay, tooth structure become more brittle and prone to breaking. In order to restore or protect the remaining tooth structure full coverage crown is placed.
Post Treatment Care:
- Do not consume any food and drinks for two to three hours after the procedure.
- Avoid hot beverages until the numbness has worn off.
- It is advisable to avoid crunchy and hard foods for a few days after the treatment.
- Usually you may experience some discomfort for several days after a root canal procedure. To control discomfort, take any pain medication prescribed by the dentist as recommended.
